FAQ
From Silenceisdefeat
[edit] When I try to do a "./configure" or execute my own program, I get a "Permission Denied." Why?
- Execution of personal programs is restricted. We do this as a major security step and to prevent many types of abuse (such as DoSing remote hosts) that many shell providers deal with.
[edit] I lost my password. What should I do?
- See our Lost Passwords page for more information.
[edit] Do you offer MySQL services?
- Yes, but only to members who hold a score of 3000 or over on the system-installed game, "tetris". Once reaching this score you can have your account added by emailing Support or you can try the new MySQL Application page. There is also phpMyAdmin at phpMyAdmin
[edit] Can I SSH tunnel with you guys?
- Read SSH Tunneling.
[edit] Do you offer CGI?
- No.
[edit] Do you have mod_php installed?
- Yes.
[edit] Do you have Perl/PHP/Python installed?
- Yes.
[edit] Does SD have an official IRC channel?
- Yes, it is located on irc.oftc.net #sd
[edit] I sent an application in, and never got a response. Why?
- Return postage or money for return postage was not included with your application.
[edit] I can't seem to log on at all, I know my settings are correct. What now?
- Did you check the Blocked Countries list? Make sure your settings are correct (see Accessing SD) and email Support.
[edit] How fast is your Internet connection?
- 10Mbps Colocation.
[edit] What if port 22 is blocked on my end?
- You can connect to ssh.silenceisdefeat.org using port 443 which is unlikely to be blocked because it is used for https.
- You can also use fw.silenceisdefeat.org. It is not rate limited like ssh.silenceisdefeat.org is.
[edit] Can I run BNC, Eggdrop, or similar on SD?
- No. The use of bouncers, emech, or eggdrop-like bots is forbidden.
[edit] I know SD has a Terms Of Service posted somewhere. Where?
- Please see TOS.
[edit] I keep getting told to "RTFM", what does "RTFM" mean?
- Please see RTFM.
[edit] I can't find the answer to my question anywhere on the wiki. What should I do now?
- There are plenty of alternatives.
- Ask on SD's IRC channel, irc.oftc.net #sd. Admins often can be found hanging out there, and the users are very knowledgeable too.
- Check the forums at Forums.
- Search on Google for it. You may be surprised at what you can find with the right search terms.
- Email Support. Please use this as a last resort if the other methods don't work.
[edit] I don't like SD and want out of here. Can I get my donation back?
- Please see Refunds for a detailed response to this question.
